Kenneth Branagh hires Kate Winslet for potato filmActress Kate Winslet is to work with Kenneth Branagh for the first time since they made Hamlet in 1996, it has been reported.
Winslet will star in the director’s latest film, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, according to industry newspaper Variety.
In a recent interview, Branagh described the project as “a beautiful romance, very touching and uplifting.”
Winslet previously played Ophelia in the thespian’s adaptation of Hamlet.
The movie, which starred Branagh in the title role, and also featured Dame Judi Dench and Billy Crystal, was nominated for four Academy Awards.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society will be based on the best-selling 2008 book by Mary Ann Shaffer and her niece Annie Barrows, who helped her finish the book after she became terminally ill.
The writer eventually died aged 74, a few months before the novel was published.
Set after World War II, the story is about a magazine columnist, Juliet Ashton, who learns how Guernsey islanders created a book group during the war to outwit their German occupiers.
After exchanging letters with a pig farmer who uncovers evidence of the book club in the modern day, Ashton becomes so captivated by the story she travels to Guernsey, where she delves deeper into the lives of the islanders and experiences things that change her life forever.
Jan 16, 2012 09:29:00 AM by Mademoiselle HandbagKelly Brook’s most recent ‘big’ acting role in Piranha 3D wasn’t exactly an acting stretch…
But that hasn’t stopped her dreaming that she could be the next Kate Winslet.
Right…
Yeah, as Kate picks up another acting award in LA, Kelly thinks that if she’d focused solely on acting she’d be in exactly the same position. She told The Telegraph:
“I often think if I had been better at focusing on one thing exclusively I’d have had an acting career like Kate Winslet or a career as a top dancer.
“In many ways I’ve gone with what people want me to do rather than what I want to do.
“I am changing that now.”
Well, that’s a relief… maybe we’ll see her on the stage at the Oscars in 2016?
Oh, her next role will be in the Keith Lemon movie. Better make that 2020…
Get Kelly Brook’s curves!
Filed under: Lindsay Lohan > Film Flickers > Elizabeth Taylor > Kate Winslet > Golden GlobesLooks like Ms. Winslet is NOT on Team Lilo!
Last week, we heard rumors that the Lifetime network was in talks to start production on a new film about the life and times of Elizabeth Taylor, which MIGHT star Lindsay Lohan.
In the past, Kate Winslet has also expressed interest in playing Liz Taylor in a film…and when she was asked her thoughts on Lindsay potentially playing Liz last night at the Globes, she had the following to say:
“I’m not gonna go there, dude!”
Kate ALSO said that she “didn’t even know” that Lindsay was interested in the role, and she mentioned that it’d be a “hugely challenging” character to take on.
Oh, and when specifically asked how she thought LiLo would do as Elizabeth, Kate said…
“I have to decline to comment.”
Sounds to us like Kate does NOT have the faith in Lindsay.
Do U agree with her? Or do U think Lindsay IS the right person for the role???

Kate Winslet: Complex roles are fascinating
added: 30 Dec 2011 // by: Cover
Cover) – EN Movies – Kate Winslet says she is drawn to challenging roles because she has “suffered”.
The actress is well-known for playing troubled characters in movies such as The Reader, Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Most recently she took on the demanding role of single mom Mildred Pierce in the TV series of the same name. Like Mildred, Kate has also been divorced.
Kate likes to play characters that she can fully embody.
“Everything else wouldn’t be interesting for me. I suffered a lot and that’s why I search for characters who have been through the same,” she told German magazine In. “I’m fascinated and stunned by what people are able to survive. And I’m grateful to be able to play such roles.”
Kate married her first husband, Jim Threapleton, in 1998 but the pair later divorced in 2001. The couple have an 11-year-old daughter Mia together.
In 2010, it was announced Kate and her second husband, director Sam Mendes, had decided to end their marriage after seven years together. They have remained on good terms for the sake of their eight-year-old son Joe.

Kate Winslet has no time to pamper herself
Press Trust of India
Tuesday, January 03, 2012 (London)
Actress Kate Winslet misses not getting much time to pamper herself but makes sure that her feet always look good as it keeps her happy.
The 36-year-old said she doesn’t really get time to get pedicures but has learnt the trick to help her feet look in better condition than they are, reported Contactmusic.
“There’s nothing like red polish on toes. I don’t have much time for pedicures, but if I haven’t done anything to my feet for months and I look like a Neanderthal woman, a coat of red means you can somehow get away with anything,” Winslet said.

Kate Winslet: Hope is vital
added: 31 Dec 2011 // by: Cover
Kate Winslet thinks people always need “hope” in relationships.
The actress is currently romancing Ned Rocknroll, who is the nephew of British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson.
However, the actress knows what it is like to go through a break-up.
She has been divorced twice; her union with director Jim Threapleton ended in 2001 and she split from American Beauty director Sam Mendes in 2010.
The 36-year-old believes it is very clear when a relationship needs to end.
“When I feel like I’m living the wrong life. When I feel trapped. You always need to have hope – and if you haven’t, then you should leave,” she told German magazine In. “But that’s no secret: everyone knows how it feels to be with the wrong person.”
However, Kate now feels comfortable with her past loves.
She has felt like she’s battling at times but is now happy with life.
“I found my inner peace. I know that I am responsible for my own luck. So changes are part of everyone’s lives. You have to fight through, there’s no other way,” she said.

Spotlight: Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet: Depending on your maturity level, you know her as a spectacular actress who thrives on edgy material, or that hot British chick who gets naked a lot. We haven’t seen her new film, but we’re betting she gets naked (emotionally) in her new movie, “Carnage,” She plays a mom who meets with her husband and another couple after their boys get into a scuffle. It’s based on the play “God of Carnage.” Which is as good an excuse as any to spotlight an actress with an age-defying resume and five Oscar nominations under her belt.

Actresses of 2011: Kate Winslet
27 December 2011
Kate Winslet has successfully mixed TV and movie roles this year – enjoying great success in both mediums.
The Reader & revolutionary Road were the last projects in which Winslet starred but she swapped the big screen for TV as she starred in Mildred Pierce.
She took on the title role in the adaptation of the James M Cain 1941 novel – which also starred Guy Pearce and Evan Rachel Wood.
Winslet picked up an Emmy for the role of the over protective mother who fights to earn the love and respect of her daughter.
The series was met with critical acclaim as Winslet made the perfect transition back to the small screen.
She returned to the big screen in the autumn as she was part of an ensemble cast that starred in Contagion – the latest project from Oscar winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh.
The movie interweaves a string of stories in a world that is battling a virus that is sweeping the globe and killing millions.
Winslet took on the role of Dr Erin Mears, who is on the front line when the infection breaks out trying to treat the sick in America.
This is a hard hitting movie that deals well with a very real possibility that a virus could well sweep the globe.
Winslet will be back on the big screen in the new year as she teams up with filmmaker Roman Polanski for Carnage – the movie also stars Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly.
She has also completed work on Movie 43, a feature-film comprised of short comedy segments – Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman and Kate Bosworth are just some of the other names that will feature in the film.

Kate Winslet’s Celebrity Friends Wear The Golden Hat For Autism
December 29, 2011
Kate Winslet will be releasing a special book to benefit her autism charity, the Golden Hat Foundation, in April 2012, and has called on some of her famous friends to help.
The book features a collection of stunning self-portraits from celebrities and cultural luminaries, all wearing a “magical” hat to support autism awareness and outreach.
Winslet has amassed a collection of photos from an amazing array of her friends and renowned personalities who have donned this special hat, taken a self portrait, and passed the hat along from one person to another. Among the participants whose photos are featured in the book are George Clooney, Anna Wintour, Ben Stiller, Brigitte Lacombe, Christina Aguilera, David Souffan, Demi Moore, Don Cheadle, Elijah Wood, Ellen Page, Javier Bardem, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jude Law, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Laura Dern, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maria Sharapova, Marion Cottillard, Meryl Streep, Michael Kors, Naomi Watts, Pedro Almodovar, Peter Sarsgaard, Ricky Gervais and many, many more.
Winslet found inspiration for this project in her friends Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir and Ericsdottir”s son Keli, who lives with a severe form of non-verbal autism. Winslet met Ericsdottir when she narrated a documentary film, A Mother”s Courage: Talking Back To Autism, about the family”s mission to find a way to connect with Keli. Eventually specialists “unlocked” Keli by teaching him ways to communicate. Despite hardship, Keli now composes beautiful and deeply moving poetry. One of the poems, among the many included in the book, is called “The Golden Hat,” which describes a magical hat that enables an autistic boy to communicate. After completing the narration for the film, Kate asked Margret: “Would it help if I started a foundation to raise awareness of the plight of people with autism who are unable to communicate?” With that idea, and with inspiration from Keli’s poem, The Golden Hat, the Golden Hat Foundation was born. In addition to raising awareness, the Foundation will raise money to build innovative and specialized campuses which will offer opportunities for education, job training, social supports, recreation, and assisted living.
THE GOLDEN HAT brings together the story of Winslet”s friendship with Ericsdottir and family as well as Keli”s original poetry and writings with photographs of these celebrities and cultural icons who each share a personal statement about what their first words would be if they too were unable to communicate but suddenly “unlocked” after years of silence.
Karp said, “When we met with Kate Winslet, she told us how she became so impassioned about this issue, and we were quickly convinced that this book will both raise awareness and tell a remarkable story.”
Kolen, who will edit the book, said, “The most moving aspects of this book are Keli”s extraordinary poetry and Kate and Margret”s personal journey. It is a privilege to work with allthree of these exceptional talents. THE GOLDEN HAT will be a beautiful book with a vital message, to benefit a most worthy cause.”

Preparing to go public? Ned RocknRoll joins Kate Winslet in LA ahead of the Golden Globes
By Emily Sheridan
Last updated at 8:40 AM on 16th January 2012
They’ve been enjoying a low-key romance since getting together on Necker Island in August.
But as Ned RocknRoll was seen accompanying his girlfriend Kate Winslet to Los Angeles ahead of the Golden Globes, perhaps the couple are preparing to go public.
With Winslet up for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for Carnage at Sunday’s Globes, fans will be wondering if she arrives on the red carpet solo.
The couple were spotted flying into LAX airport on Friday.
Looking casually dressed in jeans and sunglasses, Winslet, 36, and RocKNRoll, 33, held hands as they strolled through the arrivals lounge.
Since being introduced to Sir Richard Branson’s nephew over the summer, Winslet has been infatuated with him.
Winslet had flown to Branson’s Caribbean island with model boyfriend Louis Dowler, who she previously hadn’t been seen with since nine months previously.
But while she was on the island, she and RockNRoll ‘hit it off’ and have been an item ever since.
In November, the pair were spotted on a romantic break in Paris.
RockNRoll, who changed his name from Ned Abel Smith by deed poll a few years ago, works for his uncle’s Virgin Galactic space travel company.
Last year, he separated from multi-millionaire Viscount Cowdray’s daughter Eliza, 23, after two years of marriage.
Winslet has been married twice before – to director Sam Mendes and writer/director Jim Threapleton.

The couple are rumoured to have been dating since August last year but until now, had decided against making any public appearances together.
Though Ned, who is the nephew of Sir Richard Branson, decided to let Kate shine on her own on the red carpet, he was waiting for her at their table when she got inside the Beverly Hills Hotel where the ceremony took place.
Wearing a stunning monochrome dress, with a flirtatious slit revealing her cleavage, Kate oozed radiance and sophistication as she posed for photographers on the red carpet.

Winslet kept the rest of her outfit simple with her dusty blonde locks scraped into a glamorous up-do and accessorising with gold jewellery and a gold clutch bag.
However, despite looking like the true British rose, all of the attention was on her romance with Ned rather than the designer label she was wearing.

As it was announced Kate had won the Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in Mildred Pierce, the couple couldn’t help but put on a public display of affection as they lent in for a celebratory kiss.
Crowds around them looked on, clapping away as the loving couple then spent a few moments hugging before Kate eventually made her way to the stage to collect her prestigious gong.
According to reports, the pair then continued their night at some of the after parties in Hollywood with fellow stars.

Me and my man: Kate Winslet gets a congratulatory kiss from Ned Rocknroll as pair make their public debut at the Golden Globes

They’ve been dating since August, but Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll chose last night’s prestigious Golden Globe awards to make their public debut.
After Winslet posed for photographers on the red carpet, looking stunning in a monochrome dress, she made her way to the table where Rocknroll, the nephew of Sir Richard Branson, was waiting for her.
And when Winslet was named Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in Mildred Pierce, she was given a congratulatory kiss from her beau.
Me and my man: Kate Winslet and boyfriend Ned Rocknroll made their public debut as a couple at last night’s Golden Globe awards
As she and Rocknroll were hugging, Winslet’s Mildred Pierce co-star Guy Pearce grabbed her rear and told her she had the best behind in showbusiness.
Later, as the awards at the Beverly Hilton drew to a close, Winslet was seen enjoying a tight clinch with Rocknroll.
She told the Daily Mail: ‘Everyone’s drunk but I’m sober.’
Well done, darling! Rocknroll was quick to give Winslet a kiss when she won the Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie award for Mildred Pierce
Loved up: Despite their display of affection, Winslet did not thank Rocknroll in her acceptance speech
Her best actress in a mini series win for Mildred Pierce was her third Golden Globe.
‘I had last done television when I was 16 so it was funny to return to it all these years later’, Winslet, 36, told the Mail’s Baz Bamigboye.
‘It’s harder doing television than doing a film because it’s somehow more collaborative and for this it was a 250 page script and several hours’, Winslet said.
She’s making a habit of it! The award was Winslet’s third Golden Globe
She and Rocknroll seemed blissfully happy together and planned to celebrate at some of the after parties although said she was due to meet with Kenneth Branagh to discuss the movie Guernsey that she will star in for him in the Spring.
Haven’t these people at the Golden Globes been warned?

The Golden Globes, unlike the Oscars, run a tight ship, committed to wrapping things up in their allotted three hours. But well before the first hour was over, the evening’s winners were making it tough.
Kate Winslet, who previously won two Globes for her work in 2009′s “The Reader,” and thus should know better, took the stage to accept the Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Film award, for her work in “Mildred Pierce.”
Winslet was effusive in her gratitude for director Todd Haynes, but she was only warming up, as she launched into a litany of thanks that literally included everyone involved, right on down to the truck drivers. Before you could shout, “Cue the orchestra!” the music began to swell up from the pit.
Gervais was clearly prepared for the occasion as the next time he took the stage, he advised winners to keep their “thank yous” to a minimum.
“Just do the main two: your agent and God… I know in my case they’ve had the same amount of impact on my career.”
But his advice fell on deaf ears, as “Homeland” writer/developer Howard Gordon blathered on long enough to strike up the band. Moments later Gordon was followed by Ludovic Bource, who’d just won Best Score for “The Artist.” You’d think a guy who won for a silent film would be able to keep it brief, and yet…
And then the Material Girl herself, Madonna, was dumbstruck in accepting Best Original Song, taking a good 10 seconds to get started, before prattling on and on, even speaking over the progressively louder orchestra for about 15 seconds.

Golden Globes: Kate Winslet says she wants to play a man
January 15, 2012 | 6:15 pm
Reporters backstage at award shows oftentimes ask off-topic questions. Kate Winslet was caught off-guard by one on Sunday night at the Golden Globes after accepting a statuette for her performance in the TV miniseries “Mildred Pierce.”
“Kate — would you consider playing Elizabeth Taylor? And what do you think about the fact that Lindsay Lohan wants to play her?” (Last week, it was reported that Lohan was in talks to play Taylor in a Lifetime movie about the screen icon’s romance with Richard Burton.)
“Oh my gosh, I’ll decline to comment, actually, because that’s the first I’ve heard of that,” Winslet said, brushing off the question. “I’m not gonna go there, dude. It’s a bit of a hot zone, I think.”
Winslet did comment, however, on another difficult role she’d like to tackle: a man.
“I don’t know what kind of man, and I don’t know if that would happen or not, but I would be very interested in that because I think that would be the ultimate challenge,” she revealed. (Perhaps she can chat after the Globes with Glenn Close, who tackles the challenge in “Albert Nobbs.”)
“Mildred Pierce,” which Winslet took home a prize for Sunday night, was its own sort of challenge. But the actress did take some positive things away from the experience, she said — including the ability to cook a chicken.
“My take home from ‘Mildred’ was that I was taught to section up a chicken by ["Top Chef's"] Tom Collichio at his apartment in New York,” she said. “He used a technique which is old-fashioned deliberately. It wasn’t too restaurant-style, it wasn’t too polished.”

Kate Winslet Reveals Dreams to Play a Man and Liz Taylor in Golden Globes Press Room
________________________________________
Updated 01/15/12 6:15 PM • Posted 01/15/12 5:52 PM by Molly Goodson • 0 comments
Kate Winslet stepped back into the Golden Globes press room shortly after accepting the latest statue for her collection. She won for her work in Mildred Pierce, but backstage, talk turned to future roles. She apparently has her eye on playing Elizabeth Taylor as well as taking on the part of a man someday. Plus, Kate told us why roast chicken became a favorite in her household:
On the rumors both she and Lindsay Lohan want to play Elizabeth Taylor: “I think I’ll decline to comment, that’s the first I’ve heard of that story. It’s a massive undertaking for anybody who should be fortunate enough to get that part. I’m not gonna go there, dude!”
On dream future roles: “I would like to someday play a man. That is something that I do know. I don’t know what kind of man. I don’t know whether that would ever happen or not. That would be the ultimate challenge.”
On learning to cook for the part: “I was taught to section up a chicken by Tom Colicchio! He used a technique that was quite old-fashioned so it married up. My children were eating a lot of chicken!”
On how Ricky Gervais is doing as a host: “He seems to be doing absolutely fine. I’ve been back here for about the past half-hour, so unless he’s fallen over or started drinking too much, I think he’s doing OK.”
Best fashion advice she’s ever received: “Wear something that I feel comfortable in, not to wear something just because someone else is telling me to. I think that is true of life as well.”

Golden Globes: One Small Step for Kate Winslet, One Giant Leap for Adaptations
January 16, 2012
By Tom Blunt
As much fun as it was to read along while Twitter users live-blogged the Golden Globes, there were a few moments of the broadcast that were actually worth watching on TV, especially with regard to adapted works.
Kate Winslet captured a Best Actress award for the title role in HBO’s Mildred Pierce miniseries. Between her Golden Globe and Joan Crawford’s Oscar statuette, it seems there’s something magical about the role. I’m sure Willow Smith will fare just as well in “Mildred Fierce: A Hip-Hopera” in 2037. Sadly, Evan Rachel Wood lost the supporting actress statuette to Jessica Lange, and based on what I saw in “Titus,” I’d advise against trying to take it away from her. Over in the motion picture category, however, Octavia Spencer snagged one for herself (as generally predicted) thanks to her performance in “The Help.”
On the men’s side, Peter Dinklage got the gold for his supporting role in the “Game of Thrones” adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, and George Clooney reigned over the big awards in his category, bringing home best actor and best picture (dramatic) for “The Descendants” (and used his speech mainly to pique everyone’s curiosity about Michael Fassbender’s anatomy). Of course, that’s really a win for Kaui Hart Hemmings, who wrote the book that the film was based on.
Shut out entirely were adaptations of We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and A Dangerous Method. There’s still a chance that these films and more will pull a sneak attack when Oscar nominations are announced later this month.

Kate Winslet dedicates Golden Globe to children
On a night of glory for British actors at the Golden Globes, Kate Winslet led the charge winning Best Television Actress for her role in Mildred Pierce.
Taking to the stage in a cascading monochrome gown, the English rose dedicated her award to her two kids.
“I share this with my beautiful children Mia and Joe who light up my life every day, I’m so proud to be their mum,” she said.
“I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving this award to me and for putting me in a category with such incredible heavyweights whom I feel honoured to stand alongside” she continued.
Small screen phenomenon Downtown Abbey was also recognised in the best mini-series for Television category.
The show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, said: “How fabulous this is. The whole Downton adventure has been an extraordinary one.”

British invasion! Kate Winslet, Idris Elba and Downton Abbey earn gongs at the Golden Globes

It was a triumphant night for Brits at the Golden Globes, with Kate Winslet, Idris Elba and hit TV show Downton Abbey all scoring top honours.
Winslet won the gong for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for her role in Mildred Pierce.
Taking to the stage, a composed Kate told the crowd: ‘I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving this award to me and for putting me in a category with such incredible heavyweights whom I feel honoured to stand alongside.’
Flying the flag: British star Kate Winslet won best actress for a miniseries or movie for her role in Mildred Pierce at the Golden Globes
She’s a winner: Kate Winslet gets a congratulatory kiss from new boyfriend Ned Rocknroll as she wins a Golden Globe
In the spotlight: The star kissed and hugged Ned as it was announced she had won Best Actress in a TV series or TV movie for her role in Mildred Pierce
She had earlier walked the red carpet in a stylish black and white gown by Jenny Packham, Roger Vivier shoes, and Fred Leighton jewels.
She dedicated her award to her 11-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, but made no mention of her new beau, Ned Rocknroll.
But he was sat beside her throughout the ceremony and was the first to congratulate her with a kiss.
‘I share this with my beautiful children Mia and Joe who light up my life every day, I’m so proud to their mum,’ she said.
Stylish: Kate won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in the HBO remake of classic film Mildred Pierce
Games Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage won best supporting actor, for a TV miniseries drama.
In his acceptance speech he revealed how his mother kept him grounded: ‘I was talking to my mother in Jersey before I came out, and she said, ‘Have fun, but have you seen “Mildred Pierce”? Guy Pearce is so good. He’s going to win.’
So I haven’t seen Mildred Pierce but I’m sure it’s really good, and I just love our moms because they keep us humble.’
And he ended it on a serious note. The “Game of Thrones” star gave a shout-out to fellow dwarf Martin Henderson but, rather then elaborating, he just said ‘Google him.’
Within minutes, Henderson’s name was a trending topic on Twitter.
The aspiring actor was partially paralysed on his birthday after a drunk stranger picked him up and threw him while he was having a cigarette outside a pub.
Henderson blamed the English rugby team players who recently attended a dwarf-tossing contest during the rugby World Cup in New Zealand for inspiring the attack. The Daily Mail reported that he now faces life in a wheelchair after the incident.
Henderson was recovering from a 2010 back injury but has said that this injury has set him back in his recuperation.

Kate takes to the stage. Everyone get the tissues ready
If Kate Winslet ever did an acceptance speech that didn’t involve a bit of dramatic breathing/ looking overwhelmed/ good amount of cheese, we’d bewell disappointed. Which is why this morning we are feeling positively not disappointed, because Kate has delivered again. Thanks Kate Winslet.
Kate won the award for Best Actress in a Mini Series for her role in Mildred Pierce. When her name was called, she took to the stage to deliver a tear-free, but pretty slushy acceptance speech where she appeared to be struggling to breathe properly. Though that might have been the stairs – we’ve all been there.
Firstof all she thanked the organisers of the awards for ‘putting me in a category with heavyweight actresses that I am honoured to stand alongside’ – despite the fact she’s won two Golden Globes before, forThe Reader and Revolutionary Road so to be honest, is pretty heavyweight (in a non boxing way) herself.
Kate also said thanked producers for ‘giving me this part, thank you for giving me this experience’ before going on to list everyone who worked on the TV series.
Want a look at the breathy video? It sounds rude, but it isn’t so you can watch it in work
Kate attended the awards with her boyfriend, the brilliantly-named Ned Rocknroll, who is Richard Branson’s nephew. Despite the fact that they’ve been together since August last year, Kate and Ned hadn’t appeared together in public before, so that was quite exciting. Ned gave her a supportive little kiss when she won her award too.
A night with Ned Rocknroll – unlikely to end in a tea and an early night, we’d imagine
Despite that, Kate didn’t dedicate her award to him, but instead to her kids (er, quite right too), who she said ‘light up my life’.
Kate *breathe* won *breathe* an award *BREATHE*
“I share this with my beautiful children Mia and Joe who light up my life every day,” she said. “I am so proud to be their mum and I share this with them.”
Bet they’d rather you shared sweets with them, since they are kids, but you know – a Golden Globe will do.

Name: Kate Winslet

Award/Nominations for role: Winslet has picked up Best Ensemble nominations at the Boston Society film Critics Awards, Detroit Critics Society Awards and Satellite Awards
Critics: “An actor’s playground, with Winslet and Foster practically leaping off the screen with the fearsome ridiculousness of their performances” – Filmcritics.com
“Scathing and funny and cynical about contemporary society and the hypocritical way we live now, Carnage may not be the dream movie I expected, but it has a dream cast of pure, unimpeachable ensemble perfection.” – New York Observer
“Kate embodies the elegance of the St. John woman,” creative director George Sharp said about the 36-year-old Oscar winner.
“It has been a great experience working with St. John. I am very excited for this upcoming season, George and St. John have created wonderfully chic and effortless styles for the modern woman,” Kate said about the brand in a statement.

Kate Winslet: “You Don’t Have to Be a Size 2″
The actress promotes healthy body image in a behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot for her new St. John ad campaign

Kate Winslet is known for her curves as well as her acting abilities — and that’s one of the many reasons we love her so much. Her newest ads (see above) for the spring campaign of fashion brand St. John show her flaunting her full shape and looking gorgeous doing so. And that’s an intentional decision.
“You don’t have to be a size 2, or even a size 4, to be able to wear these garments,” the 36-year-old mother of two shares in a behind-the-scenes video for the making of the ad. “They fall so well and are cut for women with a shape. And of course I love that. That’s me all over.” Watch the video below!
Winslet says she’s received a ton of positive feedback about her St. John advertisements, a reaction she calls “heartwarming.”
“A lot of women say they believe they could wear a particular dress or a pair of pants or a sweater because they have seen that I am able to wear those pieces,” she adds. “It is really important to be able to dress in clothes quickly that look effortless and feel comfortable.”
“Kate is an ideal choice for our new campaign,” St. John creative director George Sharp said when Winslet signed on with the brand last year. “She is an accomplished, beautiful woman with an extraordinary body of work, and one of the most admired actors of her generation. She embodies the modern sensibility of St. John, she is contemporary and authentically captures the style of the St. John woman.” We’ll say!
The 36-year-old English actress presented Guy with the award for Excellence in Film & Television at the show, which celebrates high profile individuals who promote Australia in the United States.

Pearce in Hollywood spotlight on eve of Golden Globe Awards

Actors Guy Pearce and Kate Winslet arrive at the ninth annual G’Day USA Ball in Hollywood on Saturday. Photo: Getty Images
FOR more than a decade, Guy Pearce has managed to cultivate a career that makes him hot property in Hollywood, but not a Tinseltown star.
The publicity-shy 44-year-old has been part of the ensemble casts of the past two best picture Oscar winners – The Hurt Locker and The King’s Speech – but still managed to avoid the spotlight and personal accolades.
”As they say, it is great to be nominated, but it is not something I seek out,” Pearce said while attending Saturday’s G’Day USA Ball in Hollywood.
”If a nomination brings attention to the work as a whole, that’s what is important.”
Just before noon today Pearce will join the elite of the large and small screens at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the 69th Golden Globe Awards.
Thanks to TV, the medium that made him a reluctant teen heart-throb in the Australian soap Neighbours in the late 1980s, Pearce in recent months has been pushed into the spotlight with multiple nominations for his role in the miniseries Mildred Pierce.
Pearce won an Emmy in September for Mildred Pierce, co-starring Kate Winslet, and later this month is also in the running for a Screen Actors Guild Award for the role.
The competition inside the Beverly Hilton is a lot tougher as Pearce is not competing solely against TV movie or miniseries actors. He is also up against Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, Paul Giamatti for the TV movie Too Big To Fail and Tim Robbins for another TV movie, Cinema Verite.
Pearce, basketballer Luc Longley and multi-platinum soft rock duo Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply were honoured at the annual G’Day USA Ball.
In a nod to their success in Mildred Pierce, Winslet handed Pearce his award for excellence in film and television. Phil Jackson, who coached Longley to three NBA titles at the Chicago Bulls, presented him with the award for excellence in sport, while Priscilla Presley introduced Russell and Hitchcock for their music award.
The Golden Globes tarnished its reputation as a bellwether for the Academy Awards last year.
The Social Network won the best picture (drama) Globe and best director for David Fincher, while Oscar voters went for The King’s Speech and its director, Tom Hooper.
The Golden Globes also differ from the Oscars in that there are separate categories for dramas and musical or comedy.
George Clooney may have to take a big duffle bag into the Beverly Hilton to carry his potential haul of four Globe trophies with two films in the running: The Descendants and The Ides of March.
Meryl Streep, for her performance as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, and Viola Davis for her role as a maid in The Help, are the top two picks for best actress (drama).

Posted by Online on Dec 19th, 2011WHEN Roman calls, Kate goes to work. Holidays can wait.
That’s Roman, as in Polanski, and, Kate as in Winslet, whose new film “Carnage,“ a satirical comedy of manners that skewers overbearing parents, opens on Friday, one day after earning Winslet a Golden Globe nomination for acting.
“I had planned not to work,“ Winslet told Reuters in a telephone interview. “But that notion just went right out the window the second I heard the name Roman Polanski.
“One doesn’t think of oneself as being ever sort of Roman Polanski-worthy,“ said Winslet about the director of such classics as “Chinatown“ and “Rosemary’s Baby.“
She added, “So you’d have to be kind of stupid, really, not to change your plans.“
“Carnage,“ which also co-stars Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly and Christoph Waltz, is based on Yasmina Reza’s biting Broadway satire of two sets of parents who meet one afternoon to discuss their sons’ playground fracas.

Exclusive Photo: ‘Carnage’

Movies that set their action in a single location are fairly common, but ones that successfully hold your interest while remaining mostly motionless are relatively rare.
The last picture to truly capture the immobile imagination was 1957′s Twelve Angry Men (although Roman Polanski’s 1976′s shocker The Tenant snags a close second).
![[image] [image]](http://www.etonline.com/media/photo/2011/12/23922257/carnage_640.jpg)
Now, Polanski is returning to one room with Carnage, a star-studded cinematic adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway play, God of Carnage. Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly enter the fray as two couples sparring over their warring sons. And as you can tell from this exclusive ETonline sneak peek, separate corners quickly become a necessity as tensions rise and motives become murky in this fantastic film.

The producer reveals Leonardo DiCaprio’s verdict on the conversion.
Posted 12th January 2012, 3:51pm in Film, by Becky ReedYesterday DIY had the pleasure of producer Jon Landau’s company as he previewed the forthcoming 3D re-release of Titanic.
James Cameron’s epic disaster movie was the highest-grossing film of all time – until his very own Avatar took the top spot 12 years later. I will admit to being a cynical youth when Titanic first opened in cinemas, scoffing at the romance between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. However, as the years passed, I found it harder to switch over the television when it aired, to the point I would unashamedly wallow in tears. Indeed, the odd tear had to be wiped away when Landau appeared in front of us as the lights went up.
Having seen the preview footage on a crappy temporary screen at last year’s Empire Big Screen, to see it in all its glory at Fox’s London HQ was wonderful. It’s the most perfect 3D conversion – Cameron has set the standard once more. We experienced eight key scenes – from the moment Rose sees the Titanic for the first time, to her rescue of the handcuffed Jack, to the sinking itself. Twenty emotional minutes were enough to realise how exquisite and rich the film looked. The depth and clarity is stunning, and will be essential viewing when it hits cinemas again on 6th April.
The jolly and friendly Landau, the producer behind this and Avatar, then explained how painstaking the work was, dropped some information on Avatar 2, and revealed DiCaprio’s reaction to the conversion.
On starting the long process of converting:
We asked the company: ‘what are the most difficult shots?’ and starting with that. It’s not always what you think will be the most difficult shots – the dining room was difficult because of all the detail, dimensionalising every glass on the table. I believe the scenes where the 3D is most compelling are the dramatic scenes. In the action scenes you don’t need that. The scene where Rose’s mother tightens the corset – that in 3D puts you in that room with them, and plays more binding than in 2D.
On whether the stars themselves have seen it yet:
Leo has seen it, Kate will be seeing it shortly. Leo, we screened it for him in Sydney, where he’s filming The Great Gatsby. What’s nice is that Leo looked great, because he’s playing that romantic lead again. Once he got over the shock of how young he looked – ‘I don’t look like that anymore!’ you heard him audibly say – he just got wrapped up. It was as if he was seeing the movie for the first time.
On revisiting the production:
It was a walk down memory lane. As Jim and I go through this, we go through every shot on a frame-by-frame basis, and we tell each other stories of the day we shot it as if it were yesterday. All movies have their good and bad in the process – on Titanic all the bad was upfront and all the good was in the backend. We’re re-experiencing the bad part having experienced the good part.
On his relationship with Cameron over the years:
The difference between Jim of True Lies and Jim of today is that Jim is a family man today. He has three kids, and that’s a great outlet for him away from the set and the chaos of a production. I kid Jim that I’ve been with him longer than any of his wives! So our relationship has evolved and stayed strong. Jim forces everyone around him to seek to learn things and find additional knowledge.
On whether he’d like to see other classics converted:
One of the keys to hopefully the success of what we’ve been doing is that the filmmaker has been involved in the process. The conversion to 3D is not a technical process – technology’s involved, but it’s an artistic process. If Steven Spielberg was to say he wanted to do E.T., or if Coppola wanted to do The Godfather. It’s important that the director is involved. It’s a creative choice.
On those who say it’s a purely financial decision to convert:
What’s wrong with filling cinemas? What’s wrong with selling popcorn and employing all the people who work in theatres? We’re being upfront about what we’re doing, but we’re also the ones spending $18 million to convert this and market the movie like it’s a big release. We’re taking the risk. We’re doing it because there’s a generation of movie goers who have never seen Titanic in the big screen – that’s why we’re doing it. My son, who was eight when he handed Prince Charles the programme at the Royal Premiere, we did a 2D screening the other year. He came out and said “Dad! That’s a good movie!” He didn’t remember it that way. There might be people who are 15 years old who were conceived the night their parents saw the movie! That would be an interesting statistic to figure out!
On other films that go through post-conversion:
I get frustrated when people make bad movies. I welcome the idea of people tackling it as a challenge. When a movie has come out and they’ve shot it concurrently, they’ll maybe spend six weeks converting it. We’re spending 60 weeks. One of the first [post-conversion] movies that was released, the director never saw the movie in 3D until the premiere. We’re releasing in 2D as well, and it will be the best version – we did a 4k master of the film.
On whether they made any other tweaks to the film:
No, we did not. The temptation is there, but this is representing the same movie. We didn’t want the ‘Where’s Waldo’ effect. We didn’t people watching the movie saying, ‘Oh, they’ve changed four things’ and going ‘Is it this, is it that?’ This is just about experiencing the film. We handcuffed our hands and said we’re just going to present the movie the way it was.
On the status of Avatar 2:
The next thing we’ll be bring back is Avatar 2 and 3. We’re excitedly working on that as we speak, and that’s four or so years out. [Jon later clarified: It's in that window, 2014/15]. We have a lot of the same team working with us, and we’re working on great themes. One of the things we learned on Avatar, that helped on Titanic, was that when you have a fast-cut action sequence, it’s not about 3D. So you can go with less 3D in those shots. If you’re watching the action, you’re not taking in the 3D. If you’re looking at a shot of the Grand Canyon, that’s about 3D. Because you can control 3D, and it’s knowing when to push it and pull in back.
On what’s next, technology-wise:
We’re trying to push the industry towards higher frame rates. We watch movies at 24 frames per second – that was a rate that was determined when sound was invented. It’s antiquated. Television is at a higher frame rate. We’re trying to push exhibition for 48 or even 60 frames per second. We’ve been doing demo tests. I think The Hobbit will be the first movie that utilises it.
On potential Titanic over-saturation due to ITV’s miniseries in April:
Going back 15 years, NBC did a miniseries with George C. Scott called Titanic. It did not impact us one way or the other. I think it’s a good thing. Any time someone’s out there talking about their show, they’re talking about the ship, they’re saying the name of our movie!
On the impact of Titanic:
The vindication was not the box office success – it was going to watch it with an audience. They are the true art. When I go to a premiere I watch the audience. Coming here, and doing our Royal Premiere here in London… that’s what’s rewarding. We are all looking for true love in our lives, and we’re all forced to face death. Rose is at the end of the story in the frigid waters of the Atlantic losing the love of her life. But the movie goes on to show that she lived a full and rewarding life. It suggests that no matter what the situation is outside of the theatre, if Rose can go on there’s hope for me.

James Cameron defends 3D Titanic movie
Titanic is being recreated in 3D for release in April 2012 and director James Cameron insists it is a “valid” project.
12:23PM GMT 21 Dec 2011
Director James Cameron has insisted that remaking Titanic as a 3D film is entirely “valid”.
Cameron’s 1997 film, which won 11 Oscars and starred Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet, is being recreated in 3D at the cost of £12million. The new version will be in cinemas on April 6 2012, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail on April 10 1912.
Cameron said that DiCaprio and Winslet have yet to see the 3D footage of Titanic but said he has spoken with Winslet about the project and she is “on board”.
More than 300 production artists have worked for more than 60 weeks to alter the film to 3D but Cameron denied that it was just an attempt to “cash in”. He said: “I think it’s perfectly valid . . . It just felt right in the centenary of the sinking of Titanic to bring this back out for fans who either are fans of the movie but have never had the widescreen experience or are fans of the movie who remember it from back then and want to re-experience that.”
Cameron is also planning a possible extended cut re-release of Avatar – the film which smashed all major box office records by taking in $2.7 billion worldwide – in what has been described as a new “suped-up” version. Avatar parts two and three will be shot back to back and released in December 2014 and 2015 respectively,
The imminent release of two new 3D blockbusters comes as the worth of the medium is being debated. Brad Bird, director of the new Mission: Impossible movie, Ghost Protocol, says he’s “not convinced” that 3D is the future of cinema. “I think that any time you have a new toy, people feel excited about it and then they overuse it,” he said. “I remain interested in 3D but I’m not exactly convinced yet. What I’m more interested in is really high resolution, and really big screens.”
Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at industry data provider Exhibitor Relations, said: “While there were nearly 40 (3D) films released this year, studios have been scaling back in terms of the type of films released in this new format. The reason? Audiences won’t pay for a 3D engagement that isn’t a premium picture.”
One of the big drawbacks is having to wear 3D glasses but Cameron insists technology is developing so quickly that they soon won’t be needed. He said: “We all want to get rid of the glasses. You know how you feel when it is about to rain. I have that feeling that it’s just around the corner, the end of glasses.”

Titanic 3D: could it be an even bigger hit for James Cameron?
Cameron’s 1997 megahit Titanic is looming over the 2012 horizon in three dimensions. Does the trailer float your boat?
Whatever you think of James Cameron, you have to admire his dedication to 3D. Avatar almost single-handedly brought about the current fad for digital 3D, the technological advances he pioneered in the medium have been adopted by everyone from Steven Spielberg to Peter Jackson and even his Corman-era Piranha work has been revamped into a gloriously trashy series of 3D movies.
1. Production year: 1997
2. Runtime: 195 mins
It’s a testament to this dedication that, even as the public starts to fall out of love with 3D, James Cameron is still giving it his all. Next year a 3D conversion of his 1997 megahit Titanic will be released into cinemas, and a trailer has just been released online. What new thrills can we expect from Titanic 3D? Let’s have a look at the trailer and find out. Note: This is a 2D trailer. You might need to use your imagination a bit.
1) Oh, hang on, my mistake. Apparently it’s ET that’s got the 3D overhaul, not Titanic. Sorry.
2) Wait, no, I was right first time. It is Titanic after all. And this must be the shot that James Cameron first envisioned when he decided to make Titanic into a 3D spectacular. The long, sweeping, instantly iconic shot of Winslet and DiCaprio pushed into the bow of the doomed vessel, fleetingly king and queen of the entire world. But what about the rest of the film? What else can 3D add?
3) WOAH! I don’t know about you, but the giant bow on Winslet’s enormous hat nearly took my flipping head off. Imagine what this’ll be like in a 3D Imax cinema. There’ll be crying and wailing and people holding their hands up to protect themselves. It’ll be carnage.
4) And, obviously, machinery. Hats and machinery. That’s what Titanic 3D is bringing to the table. But what if you’re not as easily impressed as me? What if stereoscopic hats and machinery don’t do it for you? What else has Titanic 3D got to offer?
5) But of course. There’s an iceberg in it, too. Now we can get to witness a vast, deadly object tearing into the side of a ship that actually existed in more glorious detail than ever before. Surely this is precisely what 3D was invented for.
6) And we get to see the aftermath of the collision in eye-popping 3D, as well. Look at all that water, blasting through the hull more spectacularly than anyone thought imaginable. Look at the way it’s instantly ending the lives of these people who were really once alive in real life. Awesome!
7) And don’t forget that the new 3D treatment will also allow viewers to watch this young family – this real family of actual Titanic passengers who all had hopes and dreams and aspirations – screaming in agony as a giant wave violently crushes them against a wall in pinpoint clarity. Never has watching a recreation of mass death been so lovingly rendered. James Cameron, you’re spoiling us.
8) What’s more, Billy Zane gets to fire a gun at us. Admittedly nobody will duck at this because they’ll be too busy trying to remember who Billy Zane is, but it’s a nice touch anyway.
9) And now for the money shot. The Titanic shearing in half in the middle of a freezing ocean, condemning 1,517 terrified people to their deaths in one of the most unthinkable tragedies in recorded histories, all reproduced in snazzy 3D and released almost exactly 100 years to the day after it actually happened, and all for a quick payday. That’s beautiful, James Cameron. I mean, it’s obnoxious and opportunistic and massively distasteful on about 15 different levels, but beautiful as well.
10) Although, that said, it does still contain the bit where the bloke pings off the railings into the sea, so it’s not all bad. Don’t worry, James Cameron. I forgive you.
