Kate Winslet Checks Out ‘Impact: 50 Years of the CFDA’ Gala

Held as part of the New York Fashion Week festivities, the exhibition opening night gala for ‘Impact: 50 Years of the CFDA’ was the place to be in New York City on Thursday night (February 9). Held at The Fashion Institute of Technology, stars such as Kate Winslet, Rachel Roy and Catherine Malandrino shuffled inside to get an early preview of the Council of Fashion Designers of America creation. As for what’s on display, the exhibit was put together as the CFDA asked all members – which includes numerous top name designers and celebrities – to craft personal “impact statements” and submit outfits and pictures representing their unique style. Along with the exhibit, the CFDA milestone has also been marked with a multimedia display and a companion book featuring the works of 450 fashion designers including Diane von Furstenberg. In the literary offering, Diane penned, “There is something magical about the way this group was founded back in 1962, in a small room off of Seventh Avenue. It was the brain trust of 20 passionate designers who were motivated to create a safe haven for the members of their community. They sought to protect and promote their own. Actress Kate Winslet opted for a classic little black dress as she attended the Impact: 50 Years of the CFDA show ahead of New York Fashion Week on Thursday night (9 Feb).

The Oscar-winner attended the show wearing a slinky long-sleeved dress, teamed with black peep toe shoes, a black box clutch and a silver cuff and earrings. We found ourselves wondering why Kate had played it quite so safe at an event titled ‘Impact’ and we realised that if she had worn anything more racy or quirky than this she might well have been mistaken for an exhibit! Impact: 50 Years of the CFDA celebrates the Council of Fashion Designers of America through around 100 garments and accessories designed by the CFDA’s “most impactful creators of the last fifty years”. Brit beauty Kate Winslet joined fashion’s finest at the opening of Impact: 50 Years Of The CFDA in New York With its opening night appropriately coinciding with the first day of New York Fashion Week, the celebratory exhibition, Impact: 50 Years Of The CFDA, saw celebrities and designers galore, from Kate Winslet to Diane Von Furstenberg, raising a toast to the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Working a slinky St John LBD, Kate Winslet was the ultimate Brit girl abroad, adding a side-swept up-do and blush pink cheeks for the perfect English rose glow. Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman modelled a jumpsuit from her fashion archives, as seen on Leighton Meester back in 2010, while fashion dame Diane Von Furstenberg wrapped up in a shawl coat and boots to brave the cold. And fashion favourites Prabal Gurung, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger and Zac Posen were all smiles, ahead of their autumn winter presentations at New York Fashion Week over the coming days.

It was a case of Kate Windswept last night, as the Carnage star arrived at a New York party looking like she had been caught in a gale. Kate’s simple but stylish outfit was ruined somewhat by her wavy hair, which had been blown into a loose side parting by the breeze.

The 36-year-old mother-of-two was attending an exhibition celebrating 50 Years of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) last night. Couldn’t find a brush?

Kate looked a lot less put together than she usually does at these kind of events And despite her windswept ‘do, the Oscar-winner cut an elegant figure as she strode in on the opening night of the prestigious exhibition. She was surrounded by veterans of the fashion world, including the editor of US Vogue, Anna Wintour and fashion designers Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui. While Wang and Johnson dressed casually, Winslet stepped up to the occasion in her figure-hugging piece.

The event – which comes in the middle of New York Fashion Week – marks the start of an exhibition that looks back at the US fashion industry over the past 50 years. Kate Winslet sprinkled some Hollywood glamour upon the arrivals at the celebratory exhibition of the Council of Fashion Designers of America last night. Sporting a little black shift dress by St John – the knitwear label of whom she is the face – the English actress was joined by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and a host of NYC designers including Donna Karan, Betsey Johnson, Alexander Wang and Tommy Hilfiger.

The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology is hosting ‘Impact: 50 Years Of The CFDA’, which features around 100 garments and accessories designed by the CFDA’s most impactful creators of the last fifty years, until April 20.

Kate Winslet bundles up against the cold when she lands at JFK Airport on Tuesday (February 7) in New York City.

The 36-year-old English actress was honored with a SAG Award last month for her work on Mildred Pierce, for which she (photos after the jump) also won a Golden Globe.

Kate‘s upcoming projects reportedly include a movie called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The film is based on a novel about a writer who bonds with the residents of Guernsey Island in the aftermath of World War II.

COMMENT BY KATE WINSLET REVOLUTION Administrator:  I’m looking closely at Kate’s left leg and foot.  Also at the woman’s hand upon her shoulder blade.   And I wonder ….    Do you think she hurt her foot, ankle, leg, back?   Kate has been clumsy in the past and gets hurt from time to time (i.e.; she’s a normal human being).   Maybe she really did go to Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago intending to attend the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards and got hurt.   Completely possible.   Oh well, one day she’ll reveal it in an interview.  You know how she likes to talk and talk!

Kate Winslet was so determined to complete a book to raise funds for her autism charity, she headed to a star-studded event after surgery in an attempt to meet Bill Clinton.

The actress roped in her famous pals, including Jude Law and Ben Stiller, to pose for photos wearing a “magical” headpiece for the tome in aid of the Golden Hat Foundation, which she set up to help her friend’s autistic son Keli.

Winslet’s mission came to a halt when she underwent a minor operation – but she refused to take doctors’ advice and rest up, and instead headed out to a party in a bid to land former U.S. President Clinton for her book.

She tells Ladies’ Home Journal, “You wouldn’t believe some of the things I did to get that hat to people. Like, I gatecrashed a private function to get the hat to Bill Clinton.

“It was a dinner party of about 30 people, and my friend foolishly gave me a ticket. I’d just had minor surgery and I had stitches, and I was like, ‘I don’t care, I need Bill Clinton, fuck it.’ So I hobbled in to this party in my cocktail dress, and begged. Unfortunately he was surrounded by handlers who wouldn’t let him put it on. But I needed to try. And most of the time it was fine.

“A lot of the time it was just me racing around the city to different events. Once my children and I made a road trip to watch Michael Phelps swim in Baltimore, so we could get him into the hat. I was terrified of losing it – and I was sure I’d lost it several times. See, at some point I want to auction it off to raise more money.”

The book, entitled The Golden Hat, is set for release in April (12).

Winslet helps charities because they helped her

Kate Winslet has revealed that she has a personal connection to charitable causes as her own family had to fall back on the generosity of others after her father “lost his foot” in an accident.

The Titanic star gives a large portion of her film wages to her chosen causes and reveals it’s something she has always felt compelled to do after being on the other side of hand-outs as a child.

“My father… lost his foot in an accident when I was young,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Ladies’ Home Journal magazine.

“It was awful, it caused all sorts of problems, both physically and psychologically – and for a while my family was supported by a charitable trust. So I understand on a very personal level what a charitable organisation can do,” she added. (ANI)

Bringing her beauty to another front page, Kate Winslet graces the cover of the March 2012 issue of Ladies’ Home Journal.

The Oscar-winning actress opened up to the publication about family, kids and her new book – which was written as a charitable effort for her Golden Hat Foundation to raise awareness about autism.

On the big misunderstanding about children with autism:

“That they are not capable of understanding anything, that they are completely locked in their own worlds and aren’t paying attention to anything around them or that they are disinterested. Even those closest to them sometimes believe that. And so often that proves not to be the case.”

On whether she’s ever worked with disabled children before:

“Yes, I was a spare pair of hands at a summer camp for disabled children when I was a teenager and there were kids there of varying disabilities. There was this beautiful tall young man who was 20 or 21. I won’t say he was treated unfairly, but because he didn’t speak, moved slowly and had significant sensory issues, nobody knew how to handle him. So it was a case of just managing his day. But there were moments when I would look him in the eye, and he would look at me, and I knew there was somebody in there. And I never forgot that experience. In retrospect, he was probably autistic.”

On feeling the importance of giving back in a profound way:

“Well, my father is disabled – he lost his foot in an accident when I was young. It was awful, it caused all sorts of problems, both physically and psychologically – and for a while my family was supported by a charitable trust. So I understand on a very personal level what a charitable organization can do.”

On the purpose of mothers:

“For me, motherhood is not about signing the check to get your kids and the best school; it’s about giving them the freedom to be who they are.”

Carnage Blu-ray Release Date and Details

Roman Polanski’s sharp comedy Carnage has been given a March 20, 2012 release date to debut on Blu-ray and DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Polanski’s latest stars Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly in the story of two boys whose playground tussle leads to each child’s parents taking on the other in “verbal warfare.” The film has earned $2.3 million in a limited theatrical engagement.

On Blu-ray, Carnage will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p video and 5.0 DTS-HD Master Audio. The bonus features are as follows:

The actor joins an all-star cast that includes Jack Black, Elizabeth Banks, and Steve Carell for the film about the fight between a director and a blogger.

Paul Reubens is the latest actor to join the cast of Charlie Kaufman’s Frank or Francis.

The project is a musical satire tackling Hollywood and features a star-studded cast that includes Jack Black, Elizabeth Banks, Nicolas Cage, Steve Carell, Catherine Keener and Kevin Kline.

The story centers on a contentious dispute between Frank, an intellectual film director (Carell) and Francis, an online blogger (Black) who still lives with his parents and who delights in attacking the man’s films.

Cage plays an actor who is famous for his high-concept films while Kline will play the director of the world’s top-grossing movie as well as the character’s brother, who turns into an animatronic head. Banks will play a highly-regarded actress making formulaic comedy bombs who is having an affair with Carell’s Frank.

Reubens will play an old-school film critic.

Anthony Bregman of A Likely Story is producing.

Despite certain reports, THR can confirm Kate Winslet is not in the cast.
